Yehuda Amichaï, born Ludwig Pfeuffer, grew up in an Orthodox Jewish family in Germany. Yehuda Amichai
Yehuda Amichai (Hebrew: יהודה עמיחי; born Ludwig Pfeuffer 3 May – 22 September ) was an Israeli poet and author, one of the first to write in colloquialHebrew in modern times. Amichai was awarded the Shlonsky Prize, the Brenner Prize, Bialik Prize, and Israel Prize. He also won international poetry prizes, and was nominated several times for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
