SAN ANGELO — Retired Lt. Gen. Ronnie D. Hawkins Jr. remembers it was a literal knock on the door that brought him to Angelo State University, an opportunity he credits with molding him into the person he is today.
Hawkins has been named Angelo State University's 11th president in the year history of the institution and its first Black president. The appointment was finalized during a ceremony early Monday, Aug. 17,
The Texas Tech University System Board of Regents named Hawkins the sole finalist for the position in July after the sudden avfärd of then-president Brian May. More than applications were considered for this role in a nationwide search. Hawkins was unanimously approved at the conclusion of a special-called board meeting, according to the Texas Tech University website.
