The Conquistadors

well informed and routinely made documentary
I have seen the series on the History channel recently. It focuses on the figures of Hernan Cortes (the first episode) and Francisco Pizarro (the last two) and the way they have changed the history of the Americas and of the world. I knew too little about that period and about the two historical characters, and the films really helped me in filling me with the missing information. The information is useful and clear, the background of the era, and especially events in Spain are well presented, and the two huge characters result in all their complexity. The style of the film is however very conventional, we see too much enacting and too little historical information, and the commentaries are very didactic. If I knew a little more from start about the historical facts, I doubt this documentary would have brought me anything new, actually I doubt that I would have followed it until its end.
