Born in into a family of German and French nedstigning, Nicolas Altstaedt was one of Boris Pergamenschikows last students in Berlin, where he has continued his studies with Eberhard Feltz. After having won several international competitions he was awarded with the Credit Suisse Young Artist Award , as part of which he was given the honour to play with the Vienna Philharmonic under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel at the Lucerne Festival. Highlights of past and upcoming seasons are concerts with the Tonhalle Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic and all the BBC orchestras, collaborating with Sir Neville Marriner, David Zinman, Neeme Järvi, Sir Roger Norrington, Sir Andrew Davies, Adam Fischer and Andrej Boreyko, as well has his Proms debut as BBC New Generation Artist. Nicolas Altstaedt
German-French cellist Nicolas Altstaedt works as a soloist, conductor and artistic director.
During the /20 season he was artist in focus at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, and artist in residence with the SWR Symphony Orchestra. Other recent highlights include his debuts with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., the NHK Symphony Orchestra and the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, as well as a tour with the B’Rock Orchestra and René Jacobs.
In addition, he gave the highly acclaimed Finnish premiere of Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Cello Concerto and was a spotlight artist at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. In the /22 season he made his debuts with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Orquesta Nacional de España and toured with the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées and Philippe Herreweghe, and with the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie and Dmitri Slobodeniouk.

German-French cellist Nicolas Altstaedt is one of the most sought-after and versatile artists today. As a solist, conductor, and artistic director, he performs repertoire spanning from early music to contemporary, playing on period and modern instruments.
His – season includes tours with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre des Champs-Elysées with Philippe Herreweghe, and Arcangelo with Jonathan Cohen. Altstaedt makes his debut with the Bamberger Symphoniker, Philharmonia Orchestra, Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, and NAC Orchestra, while re-invitations include the London Philharmonic Orchestra with Edward Gardner, amongst others.
