Elgeyo-Marakwet County is one of Kenya's 47 counties. Located in the former Rift Valley Province, its capital and largest town is Iten. It borders the counties of West Pokot to the north, Baringo County to the east, southeast and south, Uasin Gishu to the southwest and west, and Trans Nzoia to the northwest.

Chief Justice Martha K. Koome assumed office on May 21, , as the 15th Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya and the 3rd President of the Supreme Court. She is a trailblazer, being the first woman to hold this position in Kenya’s history.
Before her appointment, ledare Justice Koome served as a senior Judge of Appeal, overseeing the Criminal Division and chairing committees responsible for introducing innovative case management strategies and standardizing registry operations at the Court of Appeal.
Her judicial career began in as a High Court Judge, during which she held leadership roles in various divisions and locations. Prior to her judgeship, she practiced law for fifteen years, specializing in conveyancing, commercial law, civil and criminal litigation, and family law.
