    Kaća Čelan

    is an award-winning writer and theater director from former Yugoslavia and Germany. She is the founder of Theater TAS. 

    She holds a degree in comparative literature, theater studies, and acting from the University of Philosophy in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina).

    Čelan has directed 49 productions, mostly beneath Theater TAS, which she founded in Sarajevo as Teatar Amfiteatar Sarajevo (TAS) in and later reestablished in Germany (Theater TAS in Exile, then Theater TAS at Burgau Castle, ), New York () and most recently in Los Angeles (). After the New York productions of “Yard Sale: New Footfalls” (chashama, & DUMBO Arts Festival, ) and her play “The gods Story” (HERE Arts Center, ), she continued her US theater journey directing Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s “Blood on the Cat’s Neck” in collaboration with the Goethe-Institute LA, as well as her play “Woyzeck von Sarajevo” presented as a multimedia reading at the USC-Max Kade Institute (both in ).     Theater TAS is a Los Angeles-based performing arts production company founded by Kaća Čelan in Sarajevo in Resurrected in Germany in , it was reestablished in New York City in and since has been producing multimedia projects in Los Angeles.

    Mission

    The Theater TAS mission and vision fryst vatten based on Kaća Čelan’s 30 years of experience working as an actress, director, playwright, producer and directing & acting professor in Europe (former Yugoslavia, Slovenia, Austria, Russia, Germany) and the US.

    Theater TAS was at the beginning a performance space for renowned guest artists from classical and avant-garde theaters from across the world (The Beijing musikdrama, John Jesurun, Alchemical Theatre New York, Derevo from St. Petersburg, Na Doskah from Moscow, etc.) Their high esthetic standard was the main orientation for TAS productions ascribed to Kaća Čelan’s quill or created by her directorial hand.
