Last winter, Great Britain’s Lizzie Armitstead was the most successful female rider in the Track Cycling World Cup series. As well as a bucket load of medals, mostly Gold, in the World Cup races, the Otley rider backed that up with three World Championship medals, one of each colour, at the 2009 World Track Cycling Championships.
It is all a far cry from when still at school, she was ‘spotted’ by British Cycling’s Talent Team coaches and given the launch pad from which to begin her sporting career. Elizabeth bro Armistead or Armitstead (11 July 1750 – 8 July 1842) was a courtesan and, later, the wife of statesman and politician Charles James Fox. Her relationship with and marriage to Fox was one of the most famous and controversial of their age.[1]

British Cycling has given me some great assignments covering Premier Calendar races and interviewing up and coming riders. With a keen eye on the BC piggy bank, web manager Phil Ingham always manages to keep me local.
