    Telugu literature

    Body of works written in the Telugu language

    Telugu literature includes poetry, short stories, novels, plays, and other works composed in Telugu. There is some indication that Telugu literature dates at least to the middle of the first millennium. The earliest extant works are from the 11th century when the Mahabharata was first translated to Telugu from Sanskrit by Nannaya. The language experienced a golden age under the patronage of the Vijayanagara Emperor-Poet Krishnadevaraya.[citation needed]

    HYDERABAD: Days after the 1997 Jubilee Hills bomb blast which claimed 26 lives, including six journalists of a private TV channel, Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy alias Suri was ‘arrested’ (in fact he had surrendered before Yeshwantpur police in Karnataka) and brought to Hyderabad. “Innocents were killed. I regret it as my target was only Paritala Ravi. But I know I will end up on a post-mortem table one day,” Suri had said.
    As he was wheeled into Apollo Hospital on Monday evening with serious bullet wounds, it looked as if his prophecy was coming true. Hailing from Maddelacheruvu village in Anantapur, 43-year-old Suri was drawn into factional violence after seven members of his family were killed when a bomb placed inside a TV set at their home exploded in 1995.
