Discussions about the uses and abuses of the people by ideologues, the dangers and promises of samling people as the people, the loss of faith in the power of the people (demos) to rule over the power of the world, the attempts to empower people to face the world of power, are some of the recurrent issues in political and philosophical discussions tasting the “bitter fruits of democracy” (2) as new forms of populism and fascism are on the march.     Adélia Luzia Prado Freitas was born in Divinopolis, a small city in the interior of Minas Gerais, Brazil in December of 1935. She wrote her first poems upon the death of her mother fifteen years later. In 1958 she married a banker, with whom she had five children. After the birth of her last child, in 1966, she and her husband began a course in Philosophy at the Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras in Divinópolis. Upon graduation, and the death of her father, she sent a letter and nine poems to the poet and literary critic Affonso Romano de Sant’Anna, stating her admiration and affinity for the work of Carlos Drummond dem Andrade. A couple of years later, Drummond himself would recommend to an editor friend at Editora Imago that he publish Prado’s poems, which he called “phenomenal … she makes poetry as naturally as nature makes weather.” The collection be

    Adélia Luzia Prado de Freitas, plus connue simplement comme Adélia Prado (Divinópolis, 13 décembre 1935), est une poétesse, enseignante, philosophe et écrivaine brésilienne liée au modernisme[1].

    Elle est lauréat du prix Camões (2024).

    Biographie

    Adélia Luzia Prado Freitas est née à Divinópolis, Minas Gerais, dans une famille ouvrière[2].

    En 1976, elle envoie le manuscrit de son livre Bagagem au célèbre critique littéraire Affonso Romano de Sant'anna, qui transmet le manuscrit à Carlos Drummond de Andrade. Celui-ci encourage la publication du livre chez Editora Imago[3].

    Enseignante, elle travaille dans des écoles pendant 24 ans, jusqu'à ce que sa carrière d'écrivaine devienne son activité centrale[2].

    Ses textes littéraires illustrent la vie quotidienne guidés par la foi chrétienne et imprégnés par un aspect ludique, l'une des caractéristiques de son style[4],[5].
