Bade Ghulam Ali Khan was born in 1901 to the legendary Khan Saheb Ali Baqsh. His early life was spent in Lahore. At the age of 7 he was put under Khan Saheb Kale Khan of Patiala for training which continued for 10yrs. After Kale Khan Saheb"s death he recieved musical training from his own father. He also got the oppurtunity to learn from Ashiq Ali (of the tanras gharana) and from Baba Sindhi Khan.
Bade Ghulam Ali Khan gave his first performance in 1944 in Mumbai which was attended by great musicians as Fayyaz Khan, Hafiz ali Khan , Ustad Alladiya Khan and Ustad Allaudin Khan.
He recieved several prestigious awards which included the Padmabhushan in 1961 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1962.
The great musician left us on 23rd of April 1968 in Hyderabad. His being is said to have merged into "Nadabrahma" - the eternal bliss through music.

Early life and background
[edit]Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan was born in Kasur, of the erstwhile Punjab Province, British India in 1902. Following partition of India in 1947, Kasur Tehsil was allocated to Pakistan. At the age of five, Bade Ghulam began training in vocal music from his uncle Kale Khan, and later from his father. He had three younger brothers namely Barkat Ali Khan, Mubarak Ali Khan and Amanat Ali Khan.
Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan had two sons from his first marriage to Allah Jawai. Munawar Ali Khan, his younger son, was born in August 1930 and Karamat Ali Khan, his elder son, was born in Lahore on 28 December 1928. Seven sons were born to his elder son Karamat Ali Khan: Baqi Ali, Asif Ali, Mazhar Ali Khan, Jawaad Ali Khan, Mehdi Ali, Sajjad Ali, and Naqi Ali Khan. Out of th
